Bill Snyder Family Stadium, home to the Kansas State University Football program, has undergone major changes for the upcoming season. As the popularity and success of the program continues to grow, so does the number of games televised by regional and national networks. As more and more sporting events are being televised every year, the logical step in the process was to install camera cable and products throughout the stadium.
I have been working with Clark Wire and Cable for well over 5 years now and knew the quality product they produce is exactly what I needed to complete this project. I chose Clark’s Triaxial cable because it is the most flexible, easy to terminate cable that I have ever used. Since the majority of mobile production trucks use Triaxial cameras, we suggested and installed a triax backbone that would accommodate this need. Installing both the RG-59 triax on shorter runs and RG-11 on the longer sections will serve well for both HD and SD broadcasts.
In addition to the triax, audio and coax products from Clark were installed both on the field and in the broadcast booth. Clark’s 10 channel digital video snake is a newer product for Clark and it made my job easier in a number of ways. As the majority of facilities and mobile trucks in the industry use 10 channel video; it was nice to be able to install a product that fit the industry standard. The flexible jacket on the 10 channel cable also made it easy to pull.
Having worked with both professional and collegiate teams, I know the importance of having reliable product and a company that can provide that product on time. When I was approached by Kansas State University to install cables in their football stadium as well as single mode fiber in the basketball arena, Bramledge Coliseum, I immediately thought of Clark Wire & Cable. Clark previously made a number of tactical fiber optic assemblies for me so I was aware of the quality of their fiber product and workmanship of their assemblies. These fiber optic cable assemblies were perfect for things like above-the-rim robotic cameras.
My dealings with Clark during a new install at Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals, made me a true believer in their products. I really didn’t have to convince K-State that Clark was a viable product. Norm Burge, who oversees production and engineering for K-State video projects, has also been using Clark products for a number of years. In fact, when I came in Norm just finished an install that included Clark Triax and HD video cable.
It’s nice to know that come August 30th, opening day and Ring of Honor ceremonies for K-State Football, we will be up and running and ready to enjoy the 2008 Wildcat football season.
